Flexibility & Reliability: Tutoring online is flexible for both the student and the tutor. Zero commute means that lessons can take place from the comfort of your home. There are also fewer uncertainties regarding transportation. Lessons can also easily be scheduled in advance. Technology is an integrated part of modern classrooms, and remote classrooms are able to use this to the fullest. Remote lessons adapted from the COVID-19 pandemic and academic outcomes are improving over the years. A group lesson option is also available to parents, in which an online setting would be easier for everyone.
Safety: Online tutoring is safe for both the student and the tutor. There is no need to meet in a stranger's house or a public space in hopes of safety.
Affordability: Commuting is out of the picture, so transportation costs are cut from the rates. Everything is shared digitally, so there is a lower cost for the materials required.
Better Learning: Though I do not record student lessons, I do share the notes from the day with the student/parent, so the student can review what we did in class at any time.
Less Pressure: Students will feel less pressured to ask questions over the computer, as opposed to asking someone in person.
Online tutoring may not be the fit for everyone. Online tutoring is flexible, but it does require some discipline from the student. Though I will monitor students through their webcam, as I ask my students to turn their webcams on, it is still important for the student to stay focused and on task. Additionally, technical difficulties may arise during sessions. However, many problems have quick fixes. If not, a lesson can easily be rescheduled.
I am currently a student studying Mathematics at Stony Brook University. I am planning to double major in (Pure) Mathematics and Applied Mathematics & Statistics with a minor in Biology. I have done online tutoring since sophomore year of high school. I attended Brooklyn Technical High School as a Biological Sciences major. I was ranked top 10 in the school and I was awarded the gold medal for the Biological Sciences major and silver medal for Physics. Ever since I was a little kid, I have always dreamed of helping peers through teaching. I started tutoring to make math easier for people to understand. I believe that math can be very easy if you can find the patterns and tricks.
Why should I choose a college student over a certified teacher or a graduate student? I have taken all of the subjects I am offered within the past couple of years. I scored exceptionally well in those classes and their respective standardized exams. Many graduate students have no idea what topics are taught in those classes and how the curricula have changed in recent years. Teachers indeed have their teaching experiences, however, they lack connection with their students. My age is much closer to the students, so I understand what they like and what they don’t. I also offer lower rates compared to teachers and graduate students. I am also a nerd in analyzing standardized exams like Regents, AP, and SAT where I know how they are formatted and where to source practice problems for these exams.
